NEV-DC leadership recognized the need to operate more strategically. To help define the path forward, a roadmap was created to guide all of the organization’s projects and activities. NEV-DC established a strategic planning committee with the main goal of inspecting all faucets of the organization, including its mission statement to determine how the organization can better serve Nevisians, home and abroad, and remain relevant. Following is a synopsis of the strategic planning sessions.
The Mission Statement
The committee revaluated the mission statement to determine its relevance and decided the mission statement needed to be refined to better reflect the needs of Nevisians. The new mission statement divided the NEV-DC mission statement into the four tenets: health, educational and technological, social and cultural, and economic. These four tenets are the pillars on which NEV-DC stands and would drive all NEV-DC projects and activities.
The committee then conducted a SWOT analysis to determine the organization’s Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. The SWOT analysis provided a clear vision into the areas of operation where resources and efforts should be placed in order to turn weaknesses and threats into action plans, and strengths and opportunities into competitive advantages. The committee used the lists created from the SWOT analysis to generate SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) goals.
The strategic planning committee established SMART goals all traceable to the four tenets of the mission statement. The goals cover one, five, and 10-year periods, where specific goals were established for each period. By establishing these goals, the strategic planning committee accomplished its goal of providing a roadmap to guide NEV-DC in its decision-making.
NEV-DC has established specific activities it will implement in order to attract new members and to plan for the succession of the organization’s membership and its leadership. The goal is to identify specific individuals and proactively prepare them to assume leadership roles in NEV-DC, as well as to create a continual entry of new members.
Through the dedication of the strategic planning committee, NEV-DC has a strategic plan in place to guide the organization through the next decade. look forward to our enduring relationships and developing new partners to help achieve the mission of the organization. NEV-DC will work hard to continue to positively impact Nevisians at home and abroad. NEV-DC is now braced to implement the goals of the strategic plan.
